The Lion House

Our Story

Many moons ago Mahlon, a young Rasta, came from high up in the hills to caretake some 10 acres of land belonging to his grandfather.

 
 

In the tradition of generations of maroons before him he farmed the land, raised goats and cooked ital food for the locals. Away from the restrictions of life at home, he grew his locks and fully embraced the rasta livity.

Some five years later, Lizzie happened upon this humble rasta’s business known then as Natural Vibes Corners.  He shared the food that he had cooked that day (the scrapings of the pot he said!) and this was the best and sweetest food she had eaten in a long time. When her business would take her to Jamaica she would make time to visit Mahlon just to eat his food. 

A few years later, now in a loving relationship, they began to build what is now the Lion House.  For many years they lived in Scotland, first living and working in a spiritual community and then bringing some of Jamaica to Edinburgh with their creation of award-winning Coyaba, (the first Jamaican restaurant in Scotland). 

Jamaica called them home however and in 2012 the Lion House was born.

Sunday brunches, events, retreats and parties were hosted here, using fresh local produce from the farm, lovingly prepared by Mahlon and Lizzie. 

Today they have seven uniquely appointed rooms, a nature trail, spectacular terraces and much more that will delight you.
